Iowa Gardening For Good
Feeding Iowa
From Our Fields to Their Tables
At Iowa Gardening for Good (IGFG), we believe that every Iowan deserves access to fresh, nutrient-dense produce. We don’t just grow food; we build a bridge between the bounty of the Iowa harvest and the families who need it most.
The Power of $0.21
It costs IGFG just $0.21 in direct production costs to grow one pound of premium produce. Because we utilize a dedicated volunteer force and high-yield agronomy techniques, we can transform every dollar of support into nearly 5 pounds of fresh food. Your contributions toward our Iowa programming go directly into the seeds, irrigation, and field supplies required to fuel this production engine.
Why Fresh?
Most food pantries are well-stocked with canned and shelf-stable goods, but fresh "living" food is often a luxury.
-
Standard Store Produce: Often travels 1,500+ miles and spends weeks in transit.
-
IGFG Produce: Grown locally and typically delivered to our pantry partners within 24 to 48 hours of harvest.
We coordinate directly with pantry directors to ensure our harvest schedule matches their distribution hours. This ensures that even with holiday or weekend harvests, the food reaching Iowa families is at its peak nutrient density.

350,000 Pounds: Our 2026 Commitment
This season, our goal is to harvest and donate 350,000 pounds of produce. To put that in perspective, that represents over 1.75 million servings of health for our neighbors.
By focusing on high-yield, climate-resilient varieties, we maximize every acre of Iowa land to fight food insecurity across the state.
A Proven Track Record of Trust
We are committed to financial and operational transparency. Beyond direct production, your support helps us manage:
-
Distribution Logistics: Moving tons of produce safely to pantry shelves.
-
Organizational Growth: Building the professional infrastructure to scale our impact year after year.
-
Volunteer Coordination: Safely hosting groups of up to 230 people at once to get the harvest in.
